Ibas said “our maritime environment is not getting any safer especially with the upcoming socio-political activities that are taking off. I think we will benefit now that you are elevated and I want to thank the National Security Adviser for being here with us.
In his comments during the occasion, the National Security Adviser Babagana Monguno reiterated his resolve to sustain the security of the country revealing that he canvassed for Nigeria to bid to host the Gulf of Guinea conference in Abuja because he wants Nigeria to take over the chairmanship of the Gulf of Guinea Commission.
He stressed that it was important for Nigeria to assume the headship of the Gulf of Guinea being the only country with a blue water navy in the whole of the Gulf of Guinea. Also supporting Nigeria to take up this mantle is her capabilities and enormous achievements in the protection of our territorial waters.
According to the NSA “one of the many reasons why I pressed for Nigeria to host the Gulf of Guinea summit in Abuja was the fact that we really pressed for Nigeria to take over the chairmanship of the Gulf of Guinea being the only blue water navy in the whole of the Gulf of Guinea and knowing fully well the antecedents of the Nigerian Navy”.
